Family Day Kite Festival 2009
The Family Day Kite Festival is a free, open-air, panoramic, eco-friendly event for San Francisco Bay Area families. Watch spectacular kites flown high above the Marina Green—from the acrobatic kites of world champions to the hand-made entries of amateurs. The Festival features all forms of kiting from kite-flying to kite-boarding to kite-boating. This year we plan to build on the green heritage of the FDKF by adding exhibits promoting windpower, renewable energy and sustainability.
Since 1978, when the FDKF inspired Mayor George Moscone to first proclaim “Family Day” in San Francisco, to 2009 when we will host thousands of professional and amateur kite fliers, renewable energy advocates and sustainability enthusiasts from all over the world, this American Kitefliers Association (AKA) sanctioned festival has been providing beautiful, educational and healthy entertainment for families of all ages.
